I believe, with trembling, in Christ

I believe, with trembling, in Christ
I acknowledge the peg on which I hang my very life
Suspended by this fine thread of belief
a thing to behold, shimmering
I wonder sometimes:
Do I hold it?
Does it hold me
Caught in mercy that I don’t know
Tremulous, held
God beyond me, God before
Godhead, Godheart, Godtrinity
When the ant looks up what does he see
And how clearly?
I have no more inhibition
I have just this one life only
Strung about your words, God
I lay me down upon the pyre that burns
In the human face of God
