Merry Mind

Did he smile his work to see? -William Blake

Gaseous orbs that roar through space
A tiny spider's startled face
A rabbit nibbling bittercress
The guinea fowl in her polka-dot dress

A leering crocodile's specious smile,
his gentle tone that so beguiles
A baobab's crazy outsize trunk
American bittern's soft kerplunk

The way a bluejay likes to fuss
The always-astonishing octopus
Hot vents spouting in the deep
creating homes for things that creep

In sea and sky, even underground
mysteries and surprises all abound
Such delights as we now find
must have come from a merry Mind

A mind made glad by what He sees
from tallest mountains to tiniest fleas
by stars that whirl in galaxies
and the joy He brings to you and me.
